When I heard that Gary Morris would be playing Valjean in this production, I wasn't too happy. I had heard his performance on the CSR and I thought he had a very nasal and tight sounding voice. But when I got to see him live, I thought he was great. His voice really loosened up and he hit all of his high notes with a lot of gusto. The other highlight of the show was Susan Gilmour as Fantine. It was the first time I saw her. She had the greatest pop/theatre belt voice I ever heard for that character. And her acting was fantastic as well. Richard Kinsey as Javert was a good actor in his part but he sang his role too straight. Susan Tilson as Eponine had a good vocal range but she didn't really have any style to her voice. You weren't able to empathize with her character. Pete Herber as Enjolras was good vocally but he was short and stocky looking. He really didn't fit the part physically. This production was very fine tuned. The ensemble sang fantastically. Everyone used very precise diction. This made the story a lot easier to understand. The Orchestra sounded very full. And the overall sound quality of the show was great.
