This production of the Original San Francisco Company was one of the best I've ever seen. Rich Hebert as Valjean was terrific. He was a great actor and sang with a lot of dynamics. He sounded especially powerful on What Have I Done and Bring Him Home. Richard Kinsey as Javert was an equally good actor with a very good voice. You really felt sorry for Kinsey's Javert. Kelly Ground as Fantine evoked a lot of sympathy and had a great belt voice. Gary Beach and Gina Farell as the Thenardiers were two of the best I've ever seen. They took every line and made it funny. They did a fantastic, flawless job during Master of the House, The Bargain scene and The Wedding. They were extremely well received by the audience. Craig Oldfather as Enjolras was perfect for the part. He was an excellent singer and actor. He did a flawless job. As Marius, Matthew Poretta was one of the best I've seen. He had a great voice and a lot of charisma, especially when opposite Michelle Maika as Eponine. The two of them are my all-time favorite Eponine and Marius pairing. Michelle Maika turned out to be the best Eponine I've ever seen!! She completely embodied that character. She had an incredible pop/theatre voice and her acting was flawless. She was the only Eponine I've seen who could hit all of her notes, low to high with absolute ease. For example, during A Little Fall of Rain, there's that part that goes ".....the rain can't hurt me now..." which is extremely low. But Michelle Maika did an excellent job hitting those low notes. This really added something to her character. Ellen Rockne as Cosette was very good. This Production had some of the best Individual Ensemble singers I've ever seen. The Male Ensemble was fantastic. Dann Fink as Feuilly had a terrific voice. His Drink With Me solo was the best I've heard, as were the other male soloists who sang that song. The Orchestra was terrific and also one of the best I've heard.
