This was a very good performance by the Broadway Company. J Mark McVey was fantastic as Valjean. The last time I saw him as Valjean was on Broadway in 1991. He still has an amazing voice, although his acting wasn't quite as strong. He sounded incredible during the last section of "Bring Him Home". Gregg Edelman wasn't very strong as Javert. He seemed tired vocally that evening and some of his acting choices were a little unnatural. Jane Bodle as Fantine was also not very strong. She too seemed tired. Nick Wyman and Fuchia as The Thenardiers have really grown into their roles sine the last time I saw them in 1997. They were very good. Christopher Mark Peterson as Enjolras did a great job. He had a terrific voice and was a very good actor. This was my second time seeing Peter Lockyer as Marius. His interpretation improved a lot. The last time I saw him, his Marius was very serious and intense throughout the whole show. It was hard to sympathize with his character. But this time, he lightened his whole character up. You got to see a more lighthearted, realistic portrayal of Marius. He also sang with more dynamics. Cathrine Brunelle as the Eponine understudy did a fantastic job. She was a terrific actress with a terrific voice. Her interactions with Peter Lockyer as Marius were great. She sounded especially powerful on "One Day More", "In My Life", and "On My Own". Tobi Foster as Cosette had a very pleasant sounding voice and was a good actress. The ensemble was very strong, although not quite as powerful sounding as the National Company. The orchestra was especially strong that evening.
